Dogs raced around the sky,
chasing each other into different
holes in the horizon,
vaporous tails often wagging their way
along the sloping rays
of the departing sun.
And yet June waited.
Nothing was going to end her fun again.
as her heavenly playmates
scampered into evening colours,
tongues lolling in the night winds.
The sun set
and her cloudy friends disappeared.
But June just smiled,
her tiny body pressed against the hillside,
She knew it would come
before it did.
She smiled as it leapt out of the darkness
seeking the sweet bone of her attention.
